Harrisburg, PA – Saint Louis FC fell to a 2-0 defeat away to the Harrisburg City Islanders in front of 3,017 at FNB Field in Week 30 of the USL regular season.
Harrisburg opened the scoring in the 4th minute as Manolo Sanchez was found clear in the box from the corner kick to head the home side into the lead before Ropapa Mensah doubled the advantage and sealed the victory with a low shot in the 75th minute.
The first half started with Harrisburg attacking fast and furious and they broke the deadlock after only four minutes as Sanchez headed a corner kick into the high center of the goal past Devala Gorrick. They would almost double the lead soon after as Mensah was put through one-on-one with the keeper but Gorrick rushed out to force the shot wide. Pressure continued to mount as Sanchez hit the crossbar in the 9th minute from a headed effort. Saint Louis FC responded by hitting the woodwork themselves as Christian Volesky headed against the crossbar after a cross from Aedan Stanley but he was adjudged to be offside. Harrisburg continued to threaten from set pieces as they had a corner kick cleared off the line in the 32nd minute and took the 1-0 advantage into the break.
The second half was more of the same and Harrisburg would bag their second of the night in the 75th minute as Mensah was played behind the defense and hit his shot past Gorrick into the bottom left corner. Saint Louis FC did not look like they would find the answer and the only effort on goal came in the 84th minute as Tyler Feeley hit a shot straight at Harrisburg goalkeeper Brandon Miller. The result sees Harrisburg move into 10th place in the Eastern Conference while Saint Louis FC drops to 11th place with only two games remaining in the regular season.
