ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced the signing of forward Joey Calistri, pending USL and U.S. Soccer Federation approval.
Calistri was born in Deerfield, Illinois and developed in the Chicago Fire Academy before attending Northwestern University. He played in 76 games and scored 30 goals during his collegiate career and also played for the Chicago Fire U23 team in the PDL where he made 22 appearances and scored 11 goals over the 2012-2015 seasons. Calistri signed a homegrown player contract with the Chicago Fire after graduating in 2015 and made his professional debut in March 2016 against New York City FC. He would make 16 appearances during the 2016 MLS season and score one goal before joining Tulsa Roughnecks FC on loan for the 2017 USL season where he made 31 appearances and scored nine goals.
“I’m excited to welcome Joey into the group,” said Anthony Pulis, STLFC Head Coach. “He has good versatility with the ability to play in any of the attacking midfield positions underneath the striker. He had an excellent year in Tulsa whilst on loan from Chicago Fire, scoring 9 goals from a wide midfield position which is a great return. He’s another guy who really wants to be here, has a burning desire to keep improving and an excellent work ethic. I can’t wait to start working with him and the rest of the team.”
“I’m really excited to be a part of this club and can’t wait to get started in preseason,” said Calistri. “It’s going to be incredible playing in front of our passionate fans, and I plan on putting everything I have into helping make this team successful.”
