Orlando, FL – Saint Louis FC were held to a 0-0 draw against Orlando City B in front of 1,008 at Orlando City Stadium.
Both sides will walk away pleased to earn a point but regretting the missed opportunities in either half. The first half saw Orlando City B on the front foot and edging Saint Louis FC in possession and shots on goal. Saint Louis FC made some tactical substitutions to restore the balance in the second half, but neither side could create the goal to take all three points.
Orlando City B threatened from early set-piece situations as they dictated play throughout the first half. Saint Louis FC experimented with a new formation and backline which saw debutant STLFC goalkeeper Adam Grinwis called to make saves early and often. Saint Louis FC’s best chance came at the end of the first half as Mats Bjurman turned a ball from Octavio Guzman into the back of the net but was ruled out for offsides.
Saint Louis FC started the second half with a formation change and substitution as Matt Sheldon replaced Denis Ahmetovic. The changes seemed to steady the ship as STLFC controlled possession and relieved the defense during the second half. Wes Charpie had a shot on target in the 61st minute but it was gathered by Orlando goalkeeper Earl Edwards who leads the USL in saves made this season. Orlando then countered with a shot from Pierre Da Silva that forced Grinwis into a spectacular save to preserve his clean sheet. The game started to stretch in the last 20 minutes as the heat and humidity took its toll but neither side could capitalize on the space to find the winner.
