St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC has announced the signing of defender Austin Ledbetter for the 2017 season, pending USL and U.S. Soccer Federation approval.
Ledbetter was born in St. Louis and came through the ranks at St. Louis Scott Gallagher, eventually playing for the SLSG Development Academy team that made the USDA National Final game in 2012. He continued his playing career at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE) from 2013-2016, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists over 79 appearances.
During that time, his accolades include: Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team (2013); Honorable Mention All-Conference Team (2014); NSCAA First Team All-West Region, First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference, and Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team (2015); NSCAA First Team All-West Region, Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Missouri Valley Conference Defender of the Year (2016).
Ledbetter participated in the 2017 MLS Combine before being drafted by FC Dallas in the Third Round with the 53rd overall pick. He joins Saint Louis FC as an unsigned free agent.
“Austin is someone who we are familiar with,” said STLFC General Manager, Jeremy Alumbaugh. “He is a product of the SLSG Development Academy and carried that into a quality four years at SIUE where he lead them to the NCAA Tournament. He is first and foremost a quality person and his leadership has been a trait since a very young age. He has tested himself during the summer months by playing in the PDL and has grown as a player and person because of those experiences. Sometimes things have a way of working out for all involved and to have Austin in a Saint Louis FC uniform is one of those things. We are excited to have him with STLFC.”
