Richmond, VA – Saint Louis FC claimed a 1-0 victory over Richmond Kickers in front of 2,622 at City Stadium-Richmond in Week 19 of the USL Regular Season.
The lone goal arrived soon after halftime as new signing Emmanuel Appiah marked his debut with the game winner in the 46th minute. Saint Louis FC is back home at Toyota Stadium to host the Swope Park Rangers on August 5th with kickoff at 7:30pm CT.
Richmond almost started with a goal in the 6th minute as Mallan Roberts found himself beyond STLFC goalkeeper Adam Grinwis but the effort was cleared from the goal line by Tony Walls. Saint Louis FC responded with a close effort in the 25th minute as Octavio Guzman was found at the back post by a Ryan Howe cross but the shot went just wide. Milan Petosevic also came close to finding the opening goal in the 43rd minute as his volley was well saved by Richmond goalkeeper Matt Turner.
The second half started almost immediately with a goal as Guzman’s corner kick found Appiah at the near post and his half-volley turned the ball past Turner for the game’s only goal. Richmond had a couple of chances late in the game but Saint Louis FC held on for their first road win since April 12th and moves the club to 22 points in the Eastern Conference with games in hand on the teams above them to make for an interesting second half of the season.
