St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC drew 0-0 with I-70 derby rivals Swope Park Rangers in front of 4,433 fans at Toyota Stadium in Week 20 of the USL Regular Season.
Both goalkeepers would prove to be the heroes as Swope Park goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod made his professional debut and saved a penalty in the 62nd minute to keep honors even. Saint Louis goalkeeper Adam Grinwis also registered two crucial saves as he tallied his fourth clean sheet.
The first half saw Saint Louis FC with 52% of the possession and creating well in the final third but the best chance arrived in the 45th minute as Appiah took on his defender and pulled his shot just wide.
The second half was a more open affair as Swope Park started to dictate the play. The away side was awarded a dangerous free kick in the 58th minute but Mark Gonzalez shot his effort over the net. Saint Louis countered through Christian Volesky who was taken down by Swope Park goalkeeper MacLeod in the 62nd minute for a penalty. Octavio Guzman stepped up but had his penalty shot saved by MacLeod to make amends for conceding and to preserve his clean sheet on his professional debut. Swope Park came down the field in the 65th minute and Lebo Moloto had his shot saved off the line by Konrad Plewa after STLFC goalkeeper Grinwis made the initial save. The game would finish level as Saint Louis FC has kept a clean sheet in four of their last six matches.
The result keeps Saint Louis FC in 13th place in the Eastern Conference while Swope Park Rangers also maintain their position in 3rd place in the Western Conference.
