Tulsa, OK – Saint Louis FC fell to a 2-1 loss against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in front of 3,207 at ONEOK Field in Week 21 of the USL regular season. The team is back home at Toyota Stadium to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Sunday, August 13th with kickoff at 7:30pm CT.
Tulsa opened the scoring in the 25th minute with Jorge Corrales’ rocket shot before doubling their lead in the 70th minute through Chicago Fire loanee Joey Calistri. Ryan Howe was able to force an own goal off Modou Jadama in the 86th minute but it was not enough as Tulsa held on to claim all three points.
The first half started nervously for the away side when Tulsa attacker Christian Thierjung rounded STLFC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick in the 2nd minute and blasted his shot off the post. Saint Louis had a decent chance in the 12th minute as Emir Alihodzic, filling in at right back, was found in space but had his shot blocked. Saint Louis earned a corner in the 20th minute and almost took the lead as the ball fell to Ivan Mirkovic in the box following a punched clearance but his volley drifted wide of the net. Tulsa would open the scoring the in the 25th minute as the ball bounced to Corrales outside the box following a cleared free kick and he caught it sweetly to rocket past Gorrick.
The second half started with a pair of STLFC substitutions as the team looked to bounce back as Octavio Guzman and Tyler David replaced Ivan Mirkovic and Mats Bjurman, respectively. The changes seemed to make a difference as STLFC had a couple good chances, first in the 55th minute with a dangerous free kick from the top of the box and then in the 57th minute as Emmanuel Appiah created space and had his low shot saved by Tulsa goalkeeper Fabian Cerda. Tulsa would then double their lead in the 70th minute as Calistri picked up the ball in the box and fired past Gorrick after a deflection off Tony Walls. Saint Louis made the last few minutes interesting as Ryan Howe played a ball across the box which was turned in by Jadama for an own goal in the 86th minute. The team almost leveled in the final seconds as the ball was turned on frame following a corner in stoppage time but Cerda was able to hold it on the goal line to preserve the win.
