St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC stormed back to win 2-1 over Tulsa Roughnecks FC in front of 4,163 fans at Toyota Stadium in Week 23 of the USL season. The team embarks on a three-game road trip before returning home on September 9th to face the Harrisburg City Islanders.
Tulsa opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Joey Calistri in a game that look to epitomize the poor run of fortune lately for Saint Louis FC. The tide would turn in the second half as the home side dominated possession and equalized in the 55th minute through Mats Bjurman. Tulsa defender Mo Jadama would then be sent off for a second yellow card offense in the 78th minute that paved the way for in-form Seth Rudolph to score in the 90th minute and claim all three points.
The first half started positively for the home side as the team looked to dictate the tempo. The first chance arrived in the 13th minute as Milan Petosevic found himself with some space and hit a shot on goal that was collected by Tulsa goalkeeper Bryan Byars. The next chance came in the 22nd minute as Ryan Howe swung in a dangerous cross from a free kick outside the box that was cleared by Tulsa. The away side would grow into the game late in the second half with a string of chances, the first coming in the 33rd minute as Chicago Fire-loanee Joey Calistri forced a good save out of STLFC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick that hit off the post. Tulsa would find the breakthrough in the 43th minute as Calistri latched onto a bouncing ball in the box following a corner kick to give Tulsa the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The second half saw Saint Louis FC play like a team possessed as Christian Voleksy made a bursting run to beat his defender and forced Byars into a good save in the 47th minute. The equalizer came in the 55th minute as Bjurman latched onto a poor clearance by Byars following a free kick for his second goal of the season. The home side came close to taking the lead in the 70th minute as Volesky was found with a cross from Sebastian Dalgaard but his header went off the post. The game would move in Saint Louis FC’s favor in the 78th minute as Tulsa defender Jadama was sent off for his second yellow card. The winner came in the 90th minute as Rudolph volleyed a cross from Dalgaard to find the corner of the net for his fourth goal in three games. The home side would clinch the win and move into 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
