ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Saint Louis FC won 7-1 against Southern Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE) in Saturday’s preseason game at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park. They will play again at home next weekend with two games against FC Denver on March 3 and 4.
The game was broken into two 75-minute games with virtually completely different squads getting time in each game. The first game finished 4-1 with Albert Dikwa and Austin Martz each grabbing two goals. The second game finished 3-0 with Kyle Greig, a trialist, and Christian Volesky scoring to see the match finish 7-1.
"I thought in the early period of the 1st game we weren't as aggressive as I would've liked," said STLFC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. "That certainly got better as the game went on. In possession we need to be quicker and crisper with our passing, but we still showed glimpses of what we would like going forward. We've been working on a few different formations so it's been challenging for the players in that aspect but we've been pleased with their response. All in all, I'm really pleased with the attitude every one of the players showed out there and I'd also like to thank Mario Sanchez at SIUE for bringing his team out to play the two games today."
